The Story Behind Keek Kinis: A Michigan Swimwear Brand with a Purpose
Let’s take it back to 2015. I was a teenage girl on the hunt for the perfect bikini. One that felt flattering, functional, and most importantly, made me feel confident. Spoiler alert: it didn’t exist. Whether it lacked quality, didn’t offer enough support or just wasn’t the style I was going for, something was always missing from every bikini I tried on. But what started as a frustrating shopping experience quickly turned into a big idea that would eventually become Keek Kinis.
Fast forward to 2024, and that idea officially came to life here in the Great Lake State of Michigan.
From Frustration to Foundation
Keek Kinis was born out of a desire to create high-quality, timeless swimwear that actually feels good to wear. But more than that, it was fueled by my lifelong love for the ocean, marine life, and all things beachy and tropical. Back when I was still dreaming of my future brand, I was also diving deep into ocean conservation, recycling, and learning about the fashion industry’s environmental footprint. So yes, I was a true VSCO girl.
I knew from day one that if I was going to build a brand, it couldn’t just be about making cute bikinis. It had to be purpose-driven. It had to make a difference.
Sustainability, But Make It Stylish
At Keek Kinis, every bikini is made from regenerated nylon sourced from ocean waste. That means you’re not just wearing a cute suit, you're part of a movement toward mindful consumption and cleaner coastlines.
We design with longevity in mind. Think timeless cuts, flattering fits, and pieces that won’t go out of style after one summer. Because sustainable fashion isn’t just about the materials we use; it’s also about creating things that last and that you’ll actually want to wear season after season.
Made in Michigan, Inspired by the Beach
Say what you want about The Great Lakes, but they definitely have beaches. Growing up, summers on the lake were a staple for most Michigan kids. I remember spending many Fourth of July’s on Lake Huron with my family. These summers have shaped who I am, and they continue to inspire this brand every day. From our summer pop-ups at local spots like Core34 Pilates and Peach Lab, to the community of women who support and wear our suits, you all play a role in making this dream real.
A Swimwear Brand with Heart
This brand isn’t about me, it’s about us. It’s about everyone who’s ever stood in a fitting room feeling discouraged, everyone who cares about the planet and wants to shop more consciously, and everyone who believes that fashion can (and should) be a force for good.
Keek Kinis is more than just swimwear. It’s a love letter to every lake, sea, and ocean. It’s a commitment to sustainability. And it’s a celebration of feeling confident in your own skin.
